Sadly enough, NO. I will be modifying the car for less drag and weight, but it will remain an n/a motor.

its going to be just like the jump from 3rd to 4th with a 4A trans... thats the longest geared 4 spd vw ever made..

4th is too high, but 3rd is too low.

you can climb hills in 4th if you firewall it. but if you shift 3rd, you wind up to 4000+..
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

I've been running an ASF (0.75 5th, 3.67 Final, Close Ratio) in my Jetta. I'm still running he original EcoDiesel Pump without the LDA for 3 years plus now.

I've never had problem with lugging or over rev-ing around town or going up hills. To me it's the perfect transmission actually.

On the interstate it's sweet!

This is a sippster project. I drive 100% highway.

I have an AUG trans and an ACH.

The AUG has a 3.67 Final Drive while the ACH has a .75 5th.

I also have a 9A with a blown diff but that has a .71 in 5th.

So at this point, I plan to run the AUG with the .71 5th. This should be good  ;D

A buddy of mine has a 9A with the 0.71 fifth for his NA A2 Jetta.  He never gets beyond 4th gear because the commute to work is entirely city streets.  Then on the weekends he drives it interstate.  So a close ratio trans is great for NA cars so you can stay in the itty bitty torque band as long as possible.  Great for in city fuel economy too because you're never screaming or bogged down, but the jump to 5th is hard core.  You have to get that thing moving before you ever think about going to 5th.

I, on the other hand, have an ACH with a 0.71.  Pretty good gear spacing but still has legs on the top end.  Another car I have is an AGS in my 1.6 NA Cabriolet (yes, cabriolet).  This car has a 0.71 5th also but 4th is 0.91 and it's not any fun, even with a Giles pump.  Acceleration 1-3 pretty good but 4th is way too high.  It should be more like 1.00.  The other side of the coin is that 4th and 5th being like having 2 highway gears, you can climb hills and mountains well and the downshift doesn't kill you.  But it's bad for acceleration.

It will be a highway cruiser for sure. I do 99% highway driving, and the pedal is usually on the floor anyway. I live in a flat part of the country so I am not worried at all. Worse comes to worse, I swap the trans.
