now what to you is the differance? to me a refresh is rings, bearings, gaskets, lap valves ect
a rebuild invovlves a machine shop... reboring....new or machined vavles and seats...valve bushings...line bore...ect.
ive encountered a few 1.6 td,s that claim to be rebuilt..but have,nt really been...just refreshed..... any input or opinions?
well...one should follow the guidelines set in the bentley manual, otherwise it's probably just a waste of time. Wear should not exceed what the bentley manual specifies.
What the general big box auto repair places seem to call rebuilt anymore would qualify to me mentally as refreshed- they fix whats out of spec and replace a few wear items check it, clean it and send it out. What they call remanufactured i would consider rebuilt and that would be as you defined rebuilt- new valves seats, guides, bored and new pistons, rings bearings etc. Remanufactured in my mind would be brought back to new specs/tolerances all the way through although most places don't have anything that would qualify as the later!
good point...i forgot about remanufactured engines lol
