TDI starter into Vanagon adapter
« on: July 03, 2011, 03:29:19 pm »
If you have a TDI'ed Vanagon and think the standard diesel starter is powerless, replace it with a TDI starter.
You need an adapter plate. The TDI starter fits like a glove with the adapter.
Dimensions here: http://switchamotor.blogspot.com/2011/07/tdi-starter-for-t25vanagon-adapter.html

I've seen something simular to that but the Vanagon was fitted with a VR6 starter.

Karl's adapter is to use the TDI starter on the WBX bellhousings, manual and automatic.

This, from the dimensions and the description on the link, seems to be for using the TDI
starter on the diesel Vanagon bellhousing.

I'll send Karl a note, maybe it would be worth it for him to offer this one too.

If not I'll make myself one for sure.

Yes, you're right, this is to use a TDI starter on the Vanagon 091 diesel bellhousing (see the image).
The original studs for the starter-bellhouse-engine is used and a new short pair is used to mount the starter.
