ALH weird noise on driving belt/timing belt side
« on: June 09, 2011, 07:33:56 pm »
Hi everyone, for about a month now i've been trying to figure out were that noise is coming from. I've changed the belt tensioner since the damper on it was toasted, changed the idler pulley and yet it's still doing that weird noise.

Also, the noise is only happening when the engine is hot and doesnt seems to happen when on idle

I've changed my timing belt at 336k and the car is at 378k right now

It's realy hard to tell where its coming from but i used a long screw driver(trick i learned in school) to listen to the a/c, alternator and steering pump and they don't seem to make any unusual noise  :-\

Here's a video i recorded today
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIpMSsVUsPk

Feel free to tell me if i forgot to put some details!

Thanks alot!

What about the other 2 small rollers and the water pump? When were they replaced?

Also, it could be one of the other accessories. Have you pulled the serp belt to confirm?

Lastly, I've heard resealed pumps make a "squeegee" noise on the input seal.

the water pump have been changed, as for the 2 small roller i'd have to check with the garage or the receipt

I'll try and remove the serp belt today, i'll let you know if anything change  :)

So, me and catling changed the lower small roller and boy was i lucky!

Here's a picture of how the roller was sitting  :o

but the thing that i was lucky with is that the ball bearing in it only gtfo of the roller yesterday so its been rolling like that for max 2h

Here's how much 2h of grinding metal to metal (old vs new) =

so let say, i would of rolled another 2h with that, well i would of probably needed a new engine!

Thanks all!

p.s ; Catlin's cat can fly!!!
