(pic needed) Anyone have plastic map pockets?
« on: June 13, 2011, 12:40:43 pm »
I need a pic of where the plastic map pockets would mount on a Mk1. I picked up some cheap on ebay, and I want to put 'em on my rabbit. I found some nice little Sony speakers that fit in them, and I *think* they mount towards the door opening rather than closer to the hinge. Any help would be appreciated.

They mount right near the hinge (front) of the car. In fact, when mounted on Cabriolets, they actually stick past the door panel on the lower front corner about 1/2 inch. The top, front edge is set back about 1/2 inch from the edge of the door panel. Same for the length of the bottom edge.

The far left of your picture, where the speaker is.. matches the forward most curve of your door. Toward the hinges. Obviously this picture uses the other door pocket.

Okie doke, just wanted to make sure I was putting it in the right spot, though non-attached fitment, seems like it goes right against the seat, if I put where you guys say, it rubs the leg....decisions, decisions....1 choice covers the hole, one choice makes it obvious...

it does give me a better idea of how to proceed thanks.

Sorry it took me a while to answer.

They're from Walmart, I think they were 19.99 or 29.99. I'll check later this evening.

I have the same door pockets you do and I mounted them as far forward as the would fit in my rabbit truck. They almost touch my seats which are stock gti seats. There is almost enough room on the passenger seat to get ur hand between them. The drivers seat bolster is broke at the front weld so it touches the pocket

Yeah, there was a little notch in the door where I think the speaker magnet goes. I wasn't sure if they were to mount forward or rearward before I started cutting on the door-cards. There was a previously mounted speaker in the door-cards I purchased, so the map pockets will cover it up just fine. Also, I'll do a writeup on my cheap-o depot vapor barrier replacement, I think you'll all be impressed when I show ya how I did it. I've been in the middle of moving, so I haven't been able to work on my rabbit as much as I'd like. It's parked over at my mom and dad's an hour away.
