Audi 5000 Differential Drain
« on: June 07, 2011, 03:41:34 am »
Does anyone here have any experience drilling a drain hole in the 5 grand automatic differential? It is one of Audi's "sealed for life" units. It has a fill plug but no drain and I want to switch to synthetic gear oil. They routinely drill and tap drains in SHO 5 speeds and there is a little template for where to drill the hole. I am hoping someone here has had some experience with this.

man its been a long time...

i used 1/8" pipe plugs for this...

on the bottom.. by the seam... like a exco skeliton there is a perfect spot between the ribs... take me a bottom photo of it and i can ps a dot on it where to drill...

common thing to do to let the atf/gear oil mix out when the seals fail.. why 5k trannies eat final drives..

Just like Eurovans and other late model VW automatics. No drain. Crappy seals between ATF and 90 wt. The 5 grand fill plug is behind the motor mount as well. A pic will be forthcoming in the next few days.

Well when you get it drained out. Fill it up with that Redline oil thats compatable with ATF and gear oil. You can use it in both diff. and trans.
