I've never had to pull the dash to change one in a MKII and I've changed a half a dozen or so.

Sawsall time!   And looking at that dash gave me a great idea for sound deadening that I really need to do.  Foam, spray on type.  Anyone agree?

i know you dont get lucky on a mk2 or mk3, you gotta pull the dash. you cant get to the heater core any other way, unless you cut a hole in the rain tran, and firewall possibly.. lol.

Mk2's don't need the dash to be pulled. The box can be removed by removing the center console etc. Like i said, a NA diesel without AC can be done in a little over an hour

i must be retarded then, because i couldnt do it without pulling the dash.. i left the fan and the fan tube (dunno what its called, goes in place of the a/c box) and i had to pull the bottom edge out first, then tilt it out from under my dash.. those stupid clips holding the heater box to the fan tube are RETARDED too..

the part that bolts on the front of the heater box, that controls the 4 dash vents, how would you go about getting the box out with that piece still there?

idk, maybe i did it the hard way, but i fixed alot more than just the heater core.. i did find my ANT FARM in the car. would have never found it had i not pulled the dash.. so, im still happy i pulled the dash partially out..
