I want to install an remote stacked finned oil cool kit as well as relocate the oil filter in my gas to diesel passat swap.
I have read some on coolers and would like an idea as to what an optimum cooler size should be.
Also - anything I should be specifically be looking for before selecting a cooler as I see some are meant for transmission and oil, or just transmissions, or just oil.
It's all perplexing to me.
I am also going to be installing an intercooler, so I'd like to mount oil cooler in front of the rad with it's own thematically controlled pusher fan if there is room, otherwise it will have to go somewhere else.
Any help appreciated. Thanks.
I trust tube/fin coolers for oil. Best flow I think, they just seem right. The ones built like a radiator, not one of those layered sheet metal or even the back and forth tubing ones.
Just use the water/oil stock one, it will be fine
Optimal cooler size is nearly irrelevant if it is thermostat regulated
I've installed a couple of the volvo oil coolers,
don't know the size; 9x5 or something close.
I don't think you'll need a cooling fan, both that I have setup run just over 80C.
Some people complain the oil doesn't get above 100C/boiling so the water doesn't evaporate,.. but of course that's the average, after cooling before it leaves the oil filter housing.
Some of the oil gets much hotter than that.
