Mk1 grille on a Mk2
« on: March 31, 2011, 09:37:48 pm »
As usual, I need help (also pm'ed Tyler). I bought a 4 round headlight grille (with radiator support) off the vortex sometime ago. A friend of mine put a new engine in my 89, and I asked if he could put the grille/headlight setup on it.

He was told it does not fit. IIRC, I have seen many Mk2's with that grille and they do look great. Which is why I obviously bought it :).

So again, the experts advice here is needed and very well appreciated.  And any pics with installation and completed work is appreciated.  If I am wrong, I will put it up for sale.

Many thanks.

Stay safe, stay well. Jimmy.

Is the support bolt-in or weld in? If you have the grill and headlights and support and it's a bolt-in, then swapping should be easy.

If it's weld-in, then you've got a MK1  grill and support, and you'll have a hell of a time trying to modify it to fit.

Post a pic of what you've got.

I'll see what we can do with pics.

Thanks much.

Will work on pics, but thanks for the replies. To be honest, I do not recall if it was off a Cabriolet. My friend is going to take another look and if it is not the right one (radiator support), I'll throw it back up for sale, look for another one, or just keep the Euro style originals.

Just trying to spiff up the daily beater.. :) Again, many, many thanks. The knowledge on this site just spins my head.
