Iwas always on the understanding that an engine running too lean (i.e too much air/boost) will run hotter, so thats my thinking as to why your man suggested more fuel to lower the EGTs slightly...

The afr on diesels is primarily adjusted with your right foot and is related to power in an entirely different way than in gassers. Do some research on tuning these engines and pumps on this site and much will become apparent.
