Corrado Valve Cover
« on: March 02, 2011, 10:59:14 pm »
I have a 1981 1.6 N/A rabbit.  I just purchased a Corrado Valve Cover and noticed that it may not fit due to the fact that the air cleaner may have a clearance problem.  Has anyone hear installed a corrado valve cover on a N/A IDI engine with the early air box cleaner?  What are my options if I want to use this valve cover, different intake manifold?

Thanks

You are right, the early Rabbits/Jettas used a different airbox design.  You could get creative and move the elbow, since that is probably the piece that is interferring or you could do what I would do and replace the intake manifold and air box with the later A2 style with the clips you don't have to bend. Hard to explain, but they are a two piece clip. You clip one end on to the airbox and pull the other end back and they snap on. Much better design.

I've always wanted to put a G60 valve cover on mine to make it look spiffy, but I'm one of them "function overrides appearance" kinda guys and I hardly ever do any cosmetic work to my engine or car in general, other than the required anti rust treatment crap because they salt the roads here heavily and it eats my floor boards and brake lines up like candy.
