Hey everyone thanks for the advice on my earler post. I ended up having to buy a whole new drive axle and install it. Now on to my second problem. I have a 92 turbo diesel engine just swapped into my 89 jetta. It does start and run but in order to start it I have to have the cold start lever pulled out and even with that out it misses/ idles rough and smokes some. Once I start driving it quits missing and smoking I can push the lever in and it will run and idle like normal. It runs fine and doesnt smoke at all until I go to start it up again. I usually have to give it gas to keep it from stalling right at start up. I am wondering if this is a timing issue that I need to take it to the garage or if its something simple that I might be able to correct. Any and all suggestions welcome. Thanks
Doug
I just had the belt changed 2 weeks ago and had a VW mechanic make sure the engine was in time.
My car behaves kinda like that when the cold start handle ISN'T pulled out, though, so I doubt that it's normal... Seeing as I haven't started it since taking it home from the PO, I'm not sure how it changes things, but I'd assume it'd run smoother on startup and not need nearly as much startup pedal.
I'd still have the injection timing checked.
