I guess I was wondering if anyone had used something dry like graphite. once I sprayed some pb blaster down into a cable and it dribbled down onto the pedal and stunk up the cabin. shoulda pulled it off the vehicle... :D

The blaster TDL or Aervoe makes a dry moly lube. The graphite works well. I used a liquid moly lube, no more squeaking.

Blaster TDL = Blaster brand teflon dry lube
Aervoe dry moly lube is just Aervoe 8078
Aervoe 6078 is a teflon lube
and the dry graphite I used was from 1990 or something when we put it on my brothers pine box derby car and I have no clue on what brand.

ok cool thanks. this cable is on my AAZ caddy, i got it from NAPA. It doesn't look like the OEM ones do. I wonder if I should just replace it.

After painting a bunch of stuff I try to stay completely away from silicone spray. It works, but sucks if any residue is around when painting. I do use it though on my rubber components like the tie rod boots, cv boots, and what not. I usually can do that away from the car.

i lubricate all my cables while OFF the car..

usualy clamp a piece of rubber hose over one end, and fill it up till it drips out the other end.. the rubber hose acts as a reservoir..

I like the dry graphite. I used to run an old 600 Prentice log loader that had a bunch of these type of cables and I was always having trouble with them. This is just a theory but I think when I was using petroleum based lubricants they attracted dirt, and the dirt would get wet in the winter, and in turn cause rust in the cables. Of course logging is a much dirtier enviroment than most cars will ever see, but when I switched to the dry graphite it did cut down on my cable problems.

White lithium grease in spray form is what I use for most anything inside of a vehicle.

It doesn't stain upholstery or clothes nearly as bad as other lubricants.

Awesome! I completely forgot about pinewood derby cars since shortly before 1990 when I discovered girls.

I like graphite for locks, cables and pinewood derby car wheels!
