Pully Alignment?

90 Jetta Turbo Diesel
Do all Jettas have power steering and alternator pulley/belt alignment trouble?

My 89 took several tries at shimming to get it right . I got 300K out of the pully alignment once it was correct (over 500K total) before other things killed it.

Now my new/used Jetta is suffering the same trouble. VW is no help in correctly selecting pulleys and there are hundreds of combinations, W/air,W/O air, W or W/O power steering, 50,60 or 90amp alt. etc.

Does anyone have a listing of pulleys used and their dimentions? this is not covered in the bently manual.

I had to shim my power steering pully out using washers to get it lined up due to having the wrong balancer, there are two different ones  .Are you just having PS belt alignment problems?Does your car have A/C.My 91 jetta use to have a 1.6 td with P/S and A/C,Three v belts  what a disaster. If yours has no A/C then the water pump pully would be somthing to check.I think that pully can shift as its 2 peice one, causing issues.

It has had the a/c unit removed , didn't work anyway and the mounting holes were all elongated so the pulleys were way out
p/s and water pump are dead on.
