Its not really a big issue, you can even frankenstein an mk1 cluster with mk2 parts to make speedo work off corrado cable.

been a little while but i finally have a little update. I have been ordering parts to make the change over as smooth as possible when im ready to tear into it. I found all the parts needed to make my 02a a cable operated clutch and to make it also mechanical rod shift shifter so that i dont have to put the cable shift box in or try to run a hydro clutch. I also found trans mounts that will allow me to bolt in the 02a without making mounts or modding anything. World Impex had the clutch fork assembly from a vanogan and I found the mounts used on vortex with poly bushings already installed. The rod shift came from claus von esson in germany and i found the cable also on vortex but ebay.de (german ebay) has the cable as well or you can buy the cable and clutch fork as a unit on there.

Oh wow, thats pretty good pricing for the Getriebehalter one! Does it line right up to the stock mount for the rear trans mounts?

I just ordered everything and don't have anything in yet. From what I have read a lot of guys with gasser motors and 02a trans setups have had good luck with it. I talked to several people at mk1 madness who turned me on to these parts. It basically makes installing the 02a a direct bolt in.

90 euro... 150+uk lbs = ~ 200-300$ + shipping..

NLS is making 02a mounts for 300ish.. is in pa so on.. so to be honest.. they all about same price..

i can still piss away my time for less to build for less..

somthing to rember on keeping linkage vs cable shift.. exhaust.. the one lever may hit your down pipe or limits options.. so bolt turbo onto head and see how much room you got to play with.. i prefer the feel of linkage.. but exhuast room to me was key.. linkage and downpipe would have been serious issues on the burnt toast.. with stock tdi turbo.. when i goto old td set up well we know theres room as stock  set up

last.. yea hydro sux in well if it fails at stop light and your not paying attaention you rear end guy in front of you.. seen this happen a few times too many.. but same token.. if you plan to do a bigger/more force clutch down the road.. cable may suck why i kept hydro..

i actually built my clutch master on the inside of my burnt toast project.. can this be done on a mk1.. not positive.. but to be honest.. id almost try too.. the hydro line is a 6mm brake line from parts stores.. so easy to "extend" or build custom..

with that all said.. cannot wait to see how you finish up the build.. :D

yes you are right nls sells the 02a mounts but i ended up getting mine used on vortex for 200 shipped with the motor mounts and poly bushings all around.

I didnt think about the linkage being in the way of the downpipe, i guess when i drop the motor and trans in i will hook up the linkage and then try to build a downpipe that will fit around it. Hopefully this is not an issue but i wont know until i actually do the swap and start assembling everything. My main goal for the rod shift was to keep my original center console and gauges and not have to remove the dash and everything else to modify the firewall to run the cable shift. When the car is finished and the hood is down i dont want anyone to be able to tell i have done the swap.

The cable clutch just seems to be the easiest way to go and I dont plan on doing any crazy power to this to need a heavier clutch. At most i may do a chip and injectors but dont have any plans at this time of changing turbos or doing any internals to the motor.

look at how tt made up a custom shifter lever.. the top one that goes vetical with ball attached at bottom, its the rod with the little clips that attach and tends to be the one replaces for short shift..

they made up a odd ascewed one for using a mk2 manifold on a mk1.. sadly the photos suck.. but knowing that i wanted to try that idea years ago (96) and testfitting a mk3 manifold to my mk1.. the 6 bolt flange area is in the way.. linkage hits it big time.. the actual manifold..

using a mk1 td turbo set up or mk2.. aka eliminate the toiletbowl and build down pipe to turbo is a known way you know 100% things will fit..

no idea if tt sells that linkage piece by its self.. but those 2 options are things to rember if all else fails.. :D i am just worried the downpipe/egr port may be in the way..

i too agree on the mk1 shiftboot/centerconsol.. i have one of the really nice heavy leather boots for my 84 coupe.. stock 83 one before they went to crappy thin leather in 84.. and did not want to eliminate mine either.. so id do linkage on it too...

i have a custom made 2 1/2" downpipe on my td currently and it fits fine and a friend has a caddy with the tdi and 020 trans and had no issues he also made a custom downpipe. i will take plenty of pictures once i have all the pieces gathered and start to tear into it. The only thing i have yet to source is a speedo cable i still need to research that more.
