2004 Jetta BEW top end rebuild, car has 215,000 miles cam is worn not damaged I am looking to save up loot for rebuild this year, not experienced enough to do on my own, thinking about having it done locally wondering what kind of price range?
~$750 for parts from a place like idparts or metalmanparts plus shipping and taxes. These kits include bearings, cam, followers and stretch bolts. Replacing the parts shouldn't take too long but the engine will have to be timed afterwards. I imagine total cost with labour would be well over a grand.
The last BEW that I had rebuilt, the cam and lifters from VW with a discount was $550. The bearing shells were $50 per box per journal *5 and the bolts were sorced elsewhere.
