MY F@#$ING GARAGE BURNT DOWN!
« on: January 01, 2006, 10:16:49 am »
Well on friday I was woken up at 1 am to my mom screaming at me saying the garage is on fire. I was like ya very funny you got you laughs. So she waits 5 seconds and i got up to check and sure enough it burst into flames. My garage Was 24x36 and full of Diesel stuff such as my recent project  a t3/t4 hybrid 1.6l td. The cop walked through the garage and said absoloutley everything was a total loss and between 150 - 200 thousand dollars worth of damage all snap on tool and my other project a 1980 Z28 (I know you guys arent interested) but everything is gone.

THIS SUCKS!

Holy crap! What a bummer :( Got any idea what caused it?
Fire really does devastate; and I had a similar experience in the Summer. I ride show horses, and had my horse at my Trainer's when her entire barn and all the stuff therein burned in July :( I lost all my equipment, saddle, helmet etc. even a little wooden show trunk that my b/f made. My trainer even lost 4 horses in the blaze :(.
So I can sympathise. Good luck getting back on your feet; it takes a while, but at least it was only 'stuff' that got lost and nobody got hurt.

We had a fireplace all enclosed and up to fire safety standards but i think after i left the garage that night something tipped ove onto it and burst into flames im glad we got our torches out of it because that would have been a real big explosion. We are waiting for the insurance adjusters to come on tuesday and check everything out, but I think i am going to get screwed over for my car and all my parts. My dad and I sat down yesterday and drew up a new garage it should be roughly 24x50 with a second storey and a car hoist  :D

That really hurts.  Just glad nobody was hurt. Hopefully the insurance will come through, you never know.  That new set up you and your dad drew up sounds sweet. 8)

I feel for you! Bright side is you're getting a new garage out of the deal. I had a similar experience but no new garage and 7 cars lost. That larger workspace will be nice. Good luck!

Insurance came in today ans said there not going to cover my car or Any of my parts. They said they would give us 21 000 for the building which is BS. We are covered on up to 1000 dollars in car parts which is nothing. But the good news is we get every little tool replaced , absoloutley anything that was a tool the have to replace so im hapy considering 90% of it was snap on. So thats it.

Never take the first offer that insurance comes up with - that's what it is- an offer!

You are actually in the drivers seat because the ins. company has to settle with you. Sit back and give them a counter offer, then negotiate a settlement.
