He is AKA prothe, peter rothenbacher, rothenbacher engineering etc or something like that. If you know going in what your buying some of his parts are really helpful in a pinch. I have a handful of his goodies and frankly haven't had any issues. I wouldn't buy his timing belts but otherwise so far so good.

May I ask what you do have?  I like his pump and injector prices.  turbo kits are nice too.  I was more leary (sp?) of anything with moving parts, but hearing bad on the belts makes me wonder about things without moving parts as well now.  =/

This whole subject has been gone over waaay too much. Do some searches and you'll find some useful and some useless info.

I wouldn't buy the IP's, probly can't go wrong with most gaskets and maybe seals.

Pick and chose carefully, if something has the potential to ruin your engine then buy a well known brand.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

I would definitely NOT buy one of his pumps. Someone on tdiclub just posted a thread about how he used one of his cheap chinese timing belts and it broke with very few km's on it. It's all cheap stuff. I bought a turbo oil drain line and it leaked upon reaching operating temerature.

I stick to mostly maint type hardparts mk1 and mk2 from him and gaskets and such, the local stores sell alot of the same c.r.a.p. Get an altrom ignition switch from NAPA same chinese stuff prothe sells just rebranded. I have been very tempted to try one of his heads, i would steer clear of timing parts as was said anything that could easily ruin your engine. The biggest thing is just to know your not buying an oem part in most cases and if your informed and decide to take the chance it up to you. I think his pistons look like a great deal and will be trying them in my next rebuild. I know they aren't nurel or anything fancy but they may well still work well for 200+k! Really only my 2c
