Brake application shuts off radio
« on: February 13, 2011, 04:22:12 pm »
As I continue to bring my Jetta II back up to snuff, I am having a problem I can't track down. First couple of brake pedal presses in the morning shut off my stereo.. I thought it was a grounding issue, but I have tracked all the wiring back, and temporarily added a separate ground wire to the stereo with the same results. I found a buggered up brake light bulb in the rear cluster, and replaced it, but no change in my problem.

I have noticed that if I turn on the rear defogger the radio cuts in and out, like the supply is dipping to low, but all supply wires from the battery look good.

I thought for sure I would find a corroded ground cable somewhere that was causing all my grief, but no luck on that...

Thanks,
Rod

See what kind of voltage you're getting from the alternator. My radio will quit when it's not charging, sometimes my alternator won't excite without being revved up high once. Do that and the radio works again.....
