I'm an IDI guy and don't have a bentley for my B4 TDI's (Nor can I afford one at the moment)
I found a burnt Piston in my latest TDI project car, so... will be doing an 'inframe' @ 300K
Can anyone offer an early Christmas present
by providing the specs? (I realize each are 'stretch' and I have new bolts on hand)
Thanks for any help. (I'd do the same for a fellow IDI newbee)
from memory this past weekend hope they are correct as i should be working hard here at work!
rod bolts 22ft lbs +1/4 turn
head bolts there was a discrepancy between bentley and gasket info on stage one whether it should be 30 or 40nm but stage two was the same but basically stage 1=30nm(22ft lb), stage 2=60nm(44 ft lb), stage 3=1/4, turn stage 4= 1/4 turn be sure to follow the torque sequence you normally would even on an idi 1st bolt front middle crisscrossing side to side and front to back landing last on outer corners
I found some info on AllData for head torque and rod torque.
Stage 1 30ft. lbs.
Stage 2 44ft. lbs.
Stage 3 1/4 turn or 90deg.
Stage 4 1/4 turn or 90deg.
reassemble, run till fan cycles then another 1/4 or 90deg. Thats for the head.
Rods are 22ft.lbs. + 90deg.
Hope this helps. I have all the torque specs if needed.
Neither my Bentley manual or the victor Reinz packing info mention the after warmup additional 90 mentioned above!
In general, fiber gaskets used in 1.5 and 1.6 IDIs have an additional tightening step after warm-up... metal layer gaskets like those used in the 1.9l AAZ and TDI engines do not.
Yeah, I thought that it was kind of weired too. It even said with either gasket, but the last 90deg. turn after 1000 miles was only for the fiber one.
