alright, i looked at 4 sites and it looks like frybrid has the best system, but it cost like 1500 dollars, i understand the system, and how to install it, but who has the BEST DEAL, im looking to covet a 90 non turbo jetta, one other question, nobody really said how long it takes to purg your system on shut down, anybody know
thanks
greascar.com has a kit for 795$ it looks like the best deal for me, anybody have any input or am i just talking to myself
I've never used the kits -- just bought or fabricated parts myself. Having a heated filter is key because that is most sensitive to gelling, and if it's heated, is also where alot of the heat transfer to the oil occurs. The motor driven fuel switches are supposed to be better than the solenoid driven ones -- less chance of sticking if the oil is a little thick. I personally like to add electric fuel pumps pre-filter to reduce the work that the IP has to do with the thicker fuel.
I can't remember how long the purge takes. The two vehicals I've converted haven't been mine so I haven't experienced driving them much, and I haven't quite gotten the SVO systems on mine working yet. The closer you can get the switchover valve to the injection pump, the shorter it will be.
I'd be a little leary of the one tank systems, unless you are in a warm climate. I started gelling biodiesel in my filter (because it's still not heated) driving around in about 20F temps today. I can't imagine trying to start it on solid veggie oil at these temps, even if it does have a quick in-line heater -- the stuff inside the IP's going to be solid.
I have not decided yet whether to do homebrew BioD or WVO yet on the Rabbit (Rabbit and Passat both use commercially-produced BioD for now), but was leaning towards SVO. My primary concern is the environmental side of things, so if there's a problem with WVO that I don't know about, please explain.
