Cluster Going Bananas
« on: December 04, 2010, 04:11:17 pm »
Hey guys so I finally finish my 1.6TD swap into my 90' Flair 2 now the cluster from the parts car was damaged so I got a new one from a friend. When the old cluster from the parts car was running it never showed any thing on the dash now with the new one I got it always shows low oil presser all the time (witch there isn't) and its over heating. When I was driving the car around for the 1st month  those 2 lights were always flashing and the temp shows full heat all the way to the end of the bar even if it was cold. Now the car has a new rad, water-pump with fresh coolant so its fine. Then the other day I was just waiting around for my friend and letting the car idle for about 2-3 min. The temp gauge then just suddenly went to below the solid white point on the far left of the gauge and stayed there. I think its probably the sensors but it was fine on the other cluster when I was driving the car around so I really don't know. Also the speedo some times get the nervous shake I like to call it from 40k-60k and 75k-90k no idea why. Thanks allot hope to hear some good reasoning for this I've been driving MK2's all my life and not one of then and ***ty as some of them looked never had any warning lights on the dash thanks.

could be that the membrane has bad connections on it, they are hard to trace, or the voltage regulator could be bad, try switching it with the one from your old cluster

ahhh well only problem is that the car is now stored for the winter but I threw out the old dash. I might just get a new one and pop it in
