Do you have a face shield to go with the flame suit? ;D
Are you saying I'm gonna need it when this thing blows apart in my face??  ;D

Dad had a olds wagon (IDK what model) with the 5.7 diesel and all I remember is getting stuck when it wasn't very deep snow, that was always annoying. When he bought it the first thing he did was HG's and something in the IP was messed up so a local guy fixed it.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

Thanks rs, I'll keep the updates coming..  At least this isn't going to be something I'll have to rely on for daily transportation. More or less it's just something to toy with..

That's kind of surprising..  I've had an '83 Caprice sedan, 81 Delta 88 coupe, '85 Monte Carlo, and currently a '93 Caprice wagon.. All of them would work like snow plows for me.. Heck last winter I didn't even bother with snow tires on the wagon... Only issue I ever had was over heating after the grill got packed with snow.. Maybe it was all the dieseley torque..  8)

It's INCREDIBLY rare.  Here's a quickie rundown from Allpar.com  About the same info is in a few of my auto history books

Quote
When the fuel crisis hit, Dodge was not prepared, and it took some time to fit pickups with a Mitsubishi diesel; that rare model appeared around 1978, the same year the D-150 and D-250 were introduced. The diesel engine used in 1978 (and possibly later) D150s, D250s, and Power Wagons was the Mitsubishi 6DR5, 3950 cc (243 cubic inches), with 105 hp at 3500 rpm; it was reportedly virtually identical to the Land Cruiser diesel engine of the time. This factory option (VIN code H) was a straight-six and came without a badly needed turbocharger, providing good mileage (reportedly over 20 mpg) but limiting top speeds. These engines do not appear to be listed in the Standard Catalog of American Light-Duty Trucks but are in the 1978 Dodge truck brochure

Well I made it to Jersey and back without getting shot or raped by Snookie...  Got my minty Oldsmoturd diesel sitting in the garage..   All I can say is WOW it's clean for an '81.. Even has a factory cassette (not 8-track) !!  My buddy who went along did point something out to the PO and myself..  It's 2011, not 2001.. The car has been sitting in a nice dry garage for 16 years  :o

Tires are cracked, brakes are nada, batteries HA!, oh and the fuel tank... 1/4 full of some nasty liquid worthy of burning brush.. I think it'll be coming off to be cleaned..  At least I can lay under the car and admire the vintage Zeibart that's still all there..

So as far as the engine I found some reciptes from '89 and on which is when the PO bought it.. About 4k miles before it was parked it stopped on the highway and it was towed to a shop.. they "cleaned the fuel system" and it went another 4k till it was parked..  I suspect it stopped again.. There is an electric lift pump installed bypassing the original mechanical one..

So I rigged a jug of fuel and a VW fuel filter up on it and tried to start it..  After allowing the left pump to run for several mins it would start and run for a few seconds..  About long enough to drain the fuel out of the pump..  Very VERY little fuel would trickle out of the return..  So I popped the top off the pump and hit the electric pump.. Fuel very slowly dribbles into the pump.. There was a fair amount of crap floating in there..  I *think* there is a screen on the pump inlet, I'm betting it's plugged..

I feel my best bet at the moment would be to tear the pump down clean it out and reseal it.. I'm sure otherwise it'll start leaking at any moment.. Anyone got suggestions for a source on Stanadyne pump parts?

Otherwise for the couple times I had it running a few seconds it had oil pressure, and no pressure in the cooling system...  THe PO has the egr blocked off ..  I felt that to be a nice touch..

THe other good finds have been a few unopened packages of fuses, an un opened tire pressure gauge (gold mine I broke mine the day before!) and an original pair of Blu Blocker sunglasses....

pics?

sounds good, hope you can get it running with minimal effort and that it does not plague you with issues when it is running.
