Are you just running the oil pan bolts clear through the oil pan, gasket, and girdle?
Yes I am.
Also, are you running 2 gaskets or just one?
One gasket and a smear of loctite between block/girdle
Dipstick would have to be marked to the new thickness of the girdle too correct?
No it wouldn't, the dipstick mark is referenced to the oil pick up/engine bottom end. The quantity of oil required to fill the engine from bone dry will have increased - by maybe 1/2 pint?

bit of a newb when it comes to these engines but why the need for a crank girdle? is there some sort of weakness/fault ive not heard of or are you running with high torque levels?
Yes the engines have a weakness in the fact they don't like VNT turbos throwing 30+ psi at them
The girdle is a fairly advanced level of tuning, not really applicable to fairly standard tune-ups.
I'll (hopefully) be running hybrid pump, VNT turbo, MLS gasket, twin plenum inlet, port matched head. 150hp target.
Who has broke 1,6 or 1,9 becouse of it didnīt have girdle? Hands up? Zero hands up? 150hp will be very happy with stock bottom end.

I still have the one i bought off ebay for like $400 CAD. I'd like to install it someday. After seeing your pic it looks like it works. I know the oil pan bolts are too short. I'm wondering if the spacers I had were too long. The kit has everything, ARP bolts, spacers and girdle. Can you tell me approx. how long your spacers are? I work at a machine shop and can have new ones made. Do you need to drill new oil pan holes in the block, or can you use the old ones, of course, with longer bolts. Any help is appreciated. I plan on the same - going to VNT someday...

Do you have to grind any of the 'arch' on the main bearing caps to make it fit?

Thanks for that.
How many run a high power VNT on here without a girdle? I'll fit one for peace of mind, you don't have to.

Spacers 11mm ID, 20mm OD and 12.0 mm length. (this is for a 1.6 SB block)
No holes to drill.

No - no machining at all, just bolt it up

I have ran for tens of thousands kilometres (1,6 170hp). But i dont count that as a high power engine. I had girdle in my before engine, it still threw a rod through block (230hp). Both with vnt. You WILL break stock rods WAY before, its even easier with vnt

then there are people that say the stock rods are fine....and those that run the original head gasket with 20+ psi and no problems....
what rods did you use and what inlet?

Stock rods are fine with that power level, just like stock bottom end without girdle. But huge low end torque will kill rods.
Oh yes, that 1,6 ran mostly with stock fiber gasket and stock bolts.
Had no problems with those, but updated to metal gasket and arp's becouse everyone was telling it cannot work. But it did.
