Hey guys. I recently purchased a 99 tdi with 356k on it with a blown turbo. I didn't run the car beforehand. I took the engine out, cleaned the intake, deleted the egr, swapped on a used turbo, changed the t-belt and tensioner and put it back in. Once I got it running again it sounded very clackity and the CEL was on, which I expected for the lack of egr. However when I read the codes with VAG-COM i got this:
01237 fuel shut off (N109) 31-10 open/short
00539 fuel temp sensor (G81) 29-10 short/int
00522 eng coolant temp sensor (G62) 30-00 open/ B+short
01269 commencement of injection valve (N108) 31-10 open/short int
...and of course the 01265 egr code.
When I tried to read the timing the measuring block read 255 and did not change.
I had to use a jump wire to the shut off soleniod on the pump to get it to run. I should also mention that the ignition switch is bad, I loose the cluster lcd display when I turn the key on and I have no gauges.
I figure all of these codes are due to bad wiring, but maybe perhaps due to the bad ignition switch? Any suggestions?
TIA -Andy
Well if you know its a bad Ign. Swt. Then change it. It most likly the problem. Unless you pulled the connectors off with the Ign. Swt. on and there is a open/short.
I bet its the Ign. Swt.
VW fixed most of the wiring problems by MK4.
Ignition switch is on the way.
I have worked on a bunch of these mk3's, and they are all a nightmare electrically. I think its a combination of poor quality wires and crappy connections in the harness, as well as how they are laid out. Its like the engine bay harness is just cobbled together and shoved in there.
