I'm running super tech synthetic blend SAE 75W-90 in my Jetta Diesel with the 5 speed. Bought it at Wally World.

I'd go with a name brand synthetic. Quite a few choices out there.
Mobil One
Red Line
Castrol
Schaeffers (thats what I use)
I'm sure there's more, the point is the best doesn't cost that much. Fluids are cheap insurance.

Honestly, a new one. Pull the old one off, clean the inside rim and lip really well, wipe it down, lightly run some fresh fluid around the edge, and pop the new one in.

And do it soon cuz once it goes low you risk shredding fifth gear.

I'm not running it, we where moving stuff around and noticed it was leaking bad. I need to fix it to swap it in lol
