I'm curious if this will accept the adjustable pulley that came on later AAZ's?

Thanks... they are at that.  I have my own version of a hopped-up pump in the car at the moment... but no comparison from a power or smoke-management perspective.... just ask the tailgaters behind me.   ;)

You could PM Burn_your_money to confirm... hell, he probably *built* that pump...but I suspect it could work.  The pump doesn't have the hole in the body for the locking pin and the shaft locking bolt on the side (so setting up the initial TDC timing would be a little tricky) and the mounting holes are slotted so a bit of thinking would be required to mount it straight, but I believe the pulley shaft tapers are the same.  The nose on this pump is *smaller* than the nose on the adjustable pulley style so at least it won't need the mount and timing belt cover plate swapped.  BTDT.

The adjustable pulley *is* a treat for sure... unless you like to time by ear with the engine running.  ;D

Vince pretty much covered what would be required to put an adjustable pulley onto this. If you have a pump with an adjustable pulley installed on the car now you will need the proper pump mounting bracket.

You will need the right timing belt backing plate or you can modify yours.

Vincent,

My engine is the old style 1.9 AAZ, the IP pulley is not adjustable, so I assume this should just bolt right on.
Please send a PM to me with the total cost of the Giles pump including shipping to Tucson, AZ (85750).   With regard to shipping speed is not important as I do not plan to install it until sometime in October.  Please copy the email to my other email, [email protected].  Also send your Paypal information or let me know if you need another form of payment.

Regards,  Sam
Tucson, AZ

The AAZ pump is designed for IDI engines, and although it will physically bolt on to a TDI engine like your 1Z it's not very compatible at all, particularly from a fueling perspective.  What you want is called an "mTDI" pump... a pump specifically designed for TDI fueling requirements but with "m"anual or non-electronic throttle.  Giles builds those as well, BTW.    ;D

You can build an mTDI pump out of an AAZ pump but lots of mods/parts are required... there's quite a few threads on this on the board, including a pretty good overview in the FAQ.

I'd also ask you to post any further questions/discussion up as a separate thread in the TDI section.. this pump (and thread) are not compatible with mTDI applications like the 1Z, and we don't want to mislead anyone.   ;)
