it would just be an oem turbo setup most likely
 
what do you guys think? Thoughts? things to look out for?
I understand ill need the pump, turbo, manifolds, something will have to be done with the exhaust.
But whats else?

i did this to my car.

pretty straightforward.  the exhaust won't line up easily, and its a restriction anyway, so might as well build a proper one while your at it.

one thing you'll need that i didnt expect was the oil filter flange - the threaded hole for the oil feed is different than the typical one with the temp sensor/plug in it.

why does everyone think they NEED the td pump? its not necessary! a good running n/a pump will do just about the same thing, from my experiences atleast. out of all the TDs ive built, the funnest, and quickest ones have n/a pumps on them..

you need turbo, oil lines, filter flange, manifolds, oil pan, down pipe.

anything else is not completely necessary.

i run a TDI vnt turbo on my 1.6 n/a, with a stock (governor mod, and fuel screw wound way in) n/a pump, and a stock bottom end. 22 psi daily, and it rips.

i love it when people say that its harder/impossible/should not be done. because ive done it a few times, and so have lots of other people. they take the boost just fine.

NA pump works perfectly fine and can certainly push the fuel out... It's really all about smoke control.  And yes, just moderating your right foot can take care of that (even with my TD pump I still need to moderate or I can lay down a fairly heavy cloud!!)

i only have smoke when theres about zero boost. as soon as the turbo spools, its gone. but i dont know how much more fuel screw i have left, because its got no collar, i know it has a couple full turns of fuel left in it. and yes, your right foot does wonders in controlling the smoke.

Do you think a ko3 turbo would work? not having any luck with finding a vnt turbo

Be sure to use the largest down-pipe and exhaust you can, including a braided stainless steel flex joint.

After hauling 3,600 pounds for a while I decided to get the Summit racing oil cooler rather than keep the stock turbo oil / coolant heat exchanger - if you need one, let me know. Not sure what they are worth, but I will not need it now.

I have a 1.6NA that I've added a k24 to and and external oilcooler with thermostatic plate. I don't like how long it takes for the oil to warm on cold mornings and need to extra oilcooling cause it's hot out here in Las Vegas. I was seeing pretty high oil temps on the NA setup before installing the cooler on long climbs.  I have been looking at adding a factory oil cooler/warmer as well to aid in the warmup process primarily. I noticed that people are saying the TD and NA had separate oil filter flanges. What exactally is different? Is it just the threaded section for the oilfilter to spin on? I have an oil filter flange that I was gon a install but don't wanna findout there is not an easy way to make a NA flange work with a oilcooler.

the TD specific flange needs no mods to work. the n/a housing needs to be modified, as you already figured out..

n/a got M10 threads for sensors.

TD got M10 and M12 threads. the one for the turbo oil connection was M12

hows the project coming anyways? i can see this thread has been around for a while, i posted in here while i was banned, had to use the "secret" account.. lol..
