03 TDI running super cool after EGR delete...normal?
« on: August 15, 2010, 05:00:45 am »
Recently had a 110HP ALH out of a euro-Passat put into my 03 Golf.  We did an EGR delete, as well.  Otherwise, it's all stock.  Since I've had it back, the engine takes forever to warm up.  For instance, I just did a 50 mile drive doing 80mph the whole time and the temp gauge never went past the three thick markers at the bottom end of the gauge, and stayed rock bottom for almost the whole trip.  That was at night.  During the day on a hot day doing the same distance, it might get into a more normal range in stop and go, but at highway speed it only gets to just above the three thick markers if even that.  Is this normal?  Is this to be expected?  Or am I looking at a totally unrelated issue here?

Getting ready to do a PP520 Bosio nozzle upgrade and stage 1.5 ECU tune from Malone Tuning, but want to make sure I'm starting from a solid base.

Thanks.

It sounds like the Webasto heater has stopped working. They shut down automatically if anything is strange, and then they wont start until it's cleared via the OBD. Check if there's any error code.
My Touran -04 had a Webasto break down, exactly the same behaviour.

maybe verify the thermostat is still in the car and working. My alh is up to temp in 5 miles with no egr stuff or coolant glow plugs hooked up.

Will check the t-stat.

Is there a way to clear the EGR error code without spending $500 on a FlashZilla type programmer and tuning program?

you can send your ecu out and have it done for way cheaper but you will have down time. The thermostat is in the block where the lower coolant hose hooks up.
