hey guys i need to drive my car home and the injection pump will basically shut my car off when i try to idle it down past 1200-1500 rpm
this car starts really hard, cranks over fine and has new glow plugs, even when fully warmed up the car is a bear to start, when running it doesnt miss a beat until you dip below that 1200-1500 rpm mark
any ideas? I completely tore this pump apart and put it back together after cleaning it
I really need to get this on the road tonight so that I can drive it home to change engines during the days off work gives me for christmas
later
Justin
Could it be something related to the governor? My first guess is timing, though...
Can you just turn up the idle ajustment so that it idles at 1300 rpm? Not comfy, for sure, but driveable at least. You might have to get a length of tubing to fit over the bolt to get it to idle that high.
Good luck -
Could it be something related to the governor?
That would be my first guess. Missing or disconnected idle spring seems a likely suspect. Depending on the year, the idle spring could be an extension spring connected to the smaller idle lever on the side of the pump or a compression spring located at the point where the governor spring capsule connects to the main governor lever. If it is absent you won't be able to get a stable idle, it'll either rev up uncontrollably or stall.
well I got it running and able to idle down last night, it still starts real hard, i pulled some timing out of it setteing the timeing to .82mm to help it start, the problem ended up being the smoke screw was and still is to far in, so it was just overwhelming it with fuel
the engine is very tired and we had to pull the air cleaner (all oily) just to get it to start, and the blowby is horible
but it runs and should get me home 2 hours away then I will try to back off the smoke screw some more and get the pump close for the turbo engine going in this weekend, i will send pics somewhere when i am done
Thanks for your help
Justin
