I just did an engine swap on my '84 Diesel, going from an N/A to a turbo diesel
since then the car has had a tough time staying going once the fuel tank gauge reaches the 'danger zone' mark
it will sputter and die, and take a lot to get started again, but once it's started it can be revved up high and drive normally, only dying once the engine RPM drops to idle speed
is this just my gauge being funky and showing more fuel than is actually in the tank?
it doesn't really make sense that this would be happening since replacing the motor, when it didn't happen before
I went from a mk1 style fuel filter to a mk2 style filter if that make any difference
any suggestions?
you are just seeing false fuel.. its probably the gauge. what you are describing sounds just like an empty fuel tank..
the fuel gauge on my rabbit reads on the red, and never takes more than 7 gallons to fill. so in my case, i get more fuel then i think there is, and you get less fuel than you think there is. try and fill the tank when the needle reaches the half way mark.

it's just weird that the before the swap the gauge could read accurately, but now it reads all funky

There should be 2 "tangs" on the sender. If you bend the one that makes it read empty so that it takes a bit more travel to hit it the gauge might work better for you. Might not change a thing. It worked for me in a gasser.
