FS: 1992 vw jetta with 1.9mTDI engine
« on: July 03, 2010, 02:42:56 pm »
Hi guys. It's with great sadness that I'm parting with my project car. I'm not looking to get anywhere near what I put into it, so please give me decent offers. I'm looking for around $3000 obo.

The car drives good. I've replaced:
- ball joins replaced within last 15,000km.
- front & rear struts & springs
- rear upper strut support (i have the front & front lower that I will throw in, but they weren't installed)
- two new front calipers within the last 10,000km. I have new brake pads too that I haven't installed that I will throw in (monroe premium from cdn tire)
- replaced one of the rear cylinders due to leaking but have the other one. Haven't installed it due to the other one being seized on.
- replaced both rear brake shoes with new spring kit.
- I have the rear disc brake axle if buyer is interested. Am willing to throw that in too.
- recently replaced heater core, although I haven't yet put the whole dash back together because one of the gears for the vent doors is broken.
- the interior isn’t the greatest. I tried installing a remote starter which said it would work for diesels only to find out that it really didn’t. Plus some of the sensor hookups were quite difficult a la cheap kit lol. I did however install central locking system that did work for a while, but I suspect a simple wiring fault due to corrosion or a bad ground. But I’m not looking to profit from the car itself… It’s really just getting thrown into the deal.
- The engine is a 1.9 m-TDI (imported from Europe.) I had the pump done up by Giles and it runs great! The mechanical pump is worth at least $1000 itself! The engine has total seal rings (cost me $250 with stupid customs charges…) and the head was rebuilt by a reputable shop with all new valve lifters (pressure tested etc…) Original pistons were still within spec, so I didn’t bother with new ones. The bores were lightly honed though for the new rings. Crank polished with new bearings. Intermediate shaft bearings also changed. New crank seal on both sides. All new seals for the engine installed. New water pump. Pretty much a whole rebuild except pistons. I have 4 new glowplugs, but have yet to install them which I will throw in. The engine starts with however many glowplugs (maybe 1-2?) in below zero weather quite rapidly. The cold start mechanism was installed thanks to Giles, and without glowing, the engine will start on the first crank. The compression from the total seals is incredible people!!! I’ve only run the engine with the FS-2500 oil filter which if you’ve seen the video’s, all the oil is very clean without much soot in it. I won’t be adding that as I might be looking to get myself a bigger diesel in the future.
- I’ll throw in the CTN transmission as well. Tallest you’ll get, and I’ll even throw in two sets of 100mm driveshafts from a corrado that *should* from what people tell me anyways, fit with the CTN and a mk2 chassis. Just add a VR6 clutch and you’re good to go.
- I made the misfortune of getting the wrong clutch setup for this car, which slips from all the torque  so my loss is your gain? You could run the setup as is with a beefier pressure plate I think. It’s a Kevlar clutch so it should last a very long time.

I’m looking to get rid of it the sooner the better. The interior is in pieces and not driveable because a rear brake line rusted through. With everything going one after the other it’s quite depressing. But I have changed so many things on the car. I think after the brake lines, it would probably be a good little car. Also, I have a new mk3 A/C compressor that I will throw in. I have all the extra bits to install it on the engine serp system but it interferes with the radiator (shorter rad will work.. the TDI engine doesn’t make much heat at all) The car also has a fairly new condenser & receiver drier as well. If you want to use the engine with the mk2 and still have a/c, you need to swap the ends of the compressors to use the proper hose connectors (I’ll throw in the old a/c compressor if that is your intention). If you use duracool refrigerant, I can guarantee that the system will work. The other stuff is very corrosive… it might work for a bit then fail on you.

I have access to a car dolly if need be, of if you live close enough and feel ‘daring’ you could attempt to drive the car without brakes.. but it’s pretty scary lol.

Things change when you get one of these little guys:

I'm very surprised to see you doing this :( You're making the smart move though. Congrats on the new addition
