Looking for a source for aaz piston rings
« on: June 20, 2010, 04:06:35 pm »
I found these but they are $40 per piston.

I used autohaus.com to get Grant piston rings for my 1.6 but i can't find them for the aaz on the site.

This site has very cheap rings for the TDI and i think they are the same bore. Does anyone know if the rings can cross over from tdi to AAZ if the sizes are the same?

Thanks Yo,
Ed

http://www.autohausaz.com/search/product.aspx?sid=vuc2wz55aibudf450okwdcnm&makeid=800026@VW&modelid=1283958@JETTA TDI&year=1996&cid=20@Engine PartsSeals %26 Gaskets&gid=10312@Piston Ring Set

That is a standard set and it won't let me link??? I can't find the over set, but if you go to autohausaz.com look up 96...it will say TDI, but the engine code is aaz.

My understanding, and it's based only on what I've read, is that the rings were one of the things that got redesigned when they reworked the TDI engine.... so unless the part numbers look exactly the same (you could look up TDI rings on one of those sites) I'd bet they are different.

Part # 038 198 151  is the rings you are looking for, they retail about $175.  I think you should be to find them cheaper since I sell them to the local shops for about $130 a set and make good money.  When i checked TDi the same part # came up for AHU, ALH and BEW engine codes also.  Hope this helps.  :)

I ordered the rings that theman53 linked to. $73 for all 4.
They are Goetze (or how ever it's spelled) rings.
