so the head is off, and i cannot seem to find any issues in the gasket or any signs on the block or head, i will try to get a more trained eye to take a look soon. However i found some rust on the number 1 cylinder walls. is there any way to tell how much is too much or is any too much? is there any way to tell if the rings are toast without pulling the piston? it would sure be nice if all i need to do is clean up the cylinders a bit and put a new gasket on it and call er done.
so i found a crack in between the valves on the number 1 cylnder of the head. So im looking for a cheap hydraulic lifter 1.6TD head.
No need to worry about the crack between the valves. It's even mentioned in the bentley manual that these cracks are nothing to worry about unless they are greater than 3mm wide. Not 100% sure on that spec but it's excessive.
I stand corrected. On page 25 in the engine section at the bottom left corner, it mentions that small cracks between the valve seats are useable as long as the cracks are no more than .5mm wide. Every idi head I have seen has cracks between the valves on all cylinders. I was shocked the first time I saw it.
thats relieving, i think im just gonna tear down the head and take it to get checked for cracks and cleaned and resurfaced
