« on: May 12, 2010, 01:56:41 pm »
what're some symptoms?

I got:
 - irregular idle (I get anywhere from 850 to 1100)
 - huuge amount of smokiness (white) when I start up
 - really, really loud running engine

Did you just get it - and thats how it is ?

Or have you had it a while, and it slowly progressed into these conditions ? What type and model car is it ?

#3 is about normal with hood open - so long as you don't have severe clanging metal sounds going on, or severe sound similar to marbles being shaken in a can.

Does the white smoke smell more like Diesel Fuel, Burnt motor oil, or anti-freeze ?

Are the air and fuel filters known good.

If everything seems in good order, its possible someone snookered the adjustments, or maybe you have some crapped up injector nozzles.

or maybe the IP is dying. but its usually the Last Thing to go.

thats what I figured is most probable: bad adjustments. it's been getting rather worse over the past few months.

I'm getting my clutch swapped at the local diesel emporium. I'll get him to give it a glance.

thanks!
