opinion on swap
« on: November 29, 2005, 10:43:52 am »
I have a 95 jetta with a 2l 8v gas motor in it that i turbocharged and it has about 200 horses to the wheels. the only problem is that since i have been running cars on veggie the jetta has been sitting. i am building up a 1.6TD motor right now which i was going to put in a MK2 jetta. im starting to think instead of letting my nice car just sit i should throw the 1.6 td in it. i dont like putting older motors in newer cars but i dont have the option of getting a tdi motor due to money restraints. any opinion? unless someone can pooint me towards an affordable ethanol source im not going to run my jetta on gas (i hate the oil industry).

1.9 IDI. If you're in Canada.

Pulls like a dog chained 6" away from a bonfire, and has mad torque at low RPM... Plus the potential to make a monster of it, HP wise... I haven't even spent any money and I've already tuned it to the point of beating almost any 4 cyl off the line to 100km/h.
I hate MKIII heat shields.

I swapped a 1.9TD in my MK2 Jetta.

Advantages:

best: 4.6L/100km (60 mpg)
Easy to get more power and torque (intercooler, pump, turbo)
I love the torque.
Top speed: the speedometer
Jetta MK3 coupe: new project, 2.0 16V TDI BKD, R1287, ARL conn rods, GTB2260VK, FMIC, etc... (build-up very soon)

Be patient with me, english is not my first language!

All you lucky people in Canada :p  We got few enough of the 1.6TDs, and none of the 1.9TD's here in the US.

I'd say put the 1.6TD in the '95 jetta.  Better than letting it rot.  I'm facing the same situation with my subaru right now.  I love the car, but I refuse to buy gas any more, so I can't drive it till I get a diesel put in it.
