trunk is leaking
« on: December 16, 2005, 04:37:43 pm »
my jetta trunk is leaking... where are the common places that they leak? the seal looks fine but I would like to get a new one (still haven't found a place) and nothing is rusted the window seal is good, just no real evident place where it is leaking other than near the tail end of the trunk (thinking tail lights) but waaay too much water in trunk after rain for it to be the lights...

SunRoof ? If you got one, check the draining hose. Is going inside the rear bumper on each side (from the vent). If the hose is cut or not in is place, the water from the sunroof is going in your trunk.

:x  I've had a leak in the back of my bunny since I got it..... I fiddled around w the hatch seal , changed the window an' seal and the whole hatch too.  I did find a rust hole right below the hatch hinge, probably from leaves since the frankenbunny did sit for a few yrs before I brought it back to life for the third time (at least!) I even pulled the taillights and resealed them...... took a lot of sillyglue since I've got the 4 bulb lights....... nothing worked untill........ we've had a lot of rain the last wk ( I know you guys up in BC are LYAsO  ) but I had 2.5 ft of water in my frt yard and had to use a boat to get to the mail box.......  In cleaning out the back of the rabbit I noticed one of the bulb holders was loose so I pulled it out,,,, and a drip came out too!!! when I investigated I found my left taillight housing compleatly filled w water!!! evidently when wet every time I steped on the brakes the heating and cooling of the light pumped water in thru tiny cracks in the lens and filled the reflector housing untill it ran out into my trunk!!!!! I got the drill out and put a  TINY hole in the corner of each lense to drain water out ....... Not a drop of water in the cargo area since!!!!!  YiPPY!!!!!! :D   We've had so much rain it would have been faster to plunck my row boat in Sonoma creek and row and Seagull my way to work in  the San Fransisco bay and Treasure Island.......
