Did they ever change the connecting rods from the early to late 1.6? Reason I'm asking is that I had 3 good rods from the '85 NA engine I'm rebuilding, and one trashed... I had an 81 engine that I drove till the block cracked so I stole one from it to get checked out and re-bushed with the rest of them.. Turns out there is some difference.. I haven;t stopped at the machine shop to see exactly which is what as far as if the newer or older rods are heaver, but apparently there is some weigh difference (not sure how much) and the guy at the shop mentioned that they appear different.. He wasn't real keen on adding or taking weight off of any of them if I can find one that matches.. I wonder if I could somehow have some gasser rods or something...
