Just curious if its possible to have a bad port on the injector pump? got a 1.6 eco that seemed to started to miss on 1 cylinder when cold... and ran like *** unless the advance was pulled (even when warm)
installed new injectors and it still ran the same.
Only way the cylinder would begin to fire was when the engine came to operating temp and I revved the piss out it till I heard it come back.
I have since pulled the head and didnt see any noticeable signs of a bad HG (just installed a year ago along with a complete rebuilt bottom end and head)
wonder if I can bench test the pump somehow?

Although since it is apart, a reputable diesel shop should be able to bench test your pump...
I've had a bad check valve,
(they screws into the pump and the lines screw onto them)
I could hear it on one cylinder.
my vote is for low compression on one hole. my rabbit fires up on 3 cylinders, and then picks the 4th as it warms up. it would idle on all 4 cold if i turned up the idle just a smidge. i know its not that bad because you dont have to bring the RPMs up much to make it pick off the dead hole. and like i say, its only when its dead cold. i dont run my car when its dead cold anyway. i dont like watching my oil pressure gauge peg the needle just off idle. cant be good for the pump or drive gear or tang. im sure thats where most of the wear in those oil pump drive tangs comes from.
