does anybody know anything about renault diesels?
« on: April 09, 2010, 05:59:02 pm »
im thinking more exactly about the old prechamber 1.6 F8M engine (which is pretty much the same as 1.9 F8Q?)

what ive heard of is that they are pretty crappy engines with lucas injection pumps

the reason for this question is that i am a big fan of "volvo" (daf) 340/360 and on top of that love diesel engines 8)

here is pretty much the only info i can find... :P

"The F8x is the indirect injected Diesel version and has an 8-valve SOHC architecture, it uses Precombustion chambers achieve the required air/fuel mixing.

Applications:

* F8M 1.6 L (1,595 cm3 (97 cu in),B x S: 78.0 by 83.5 millimetres (3.07 in Χ 3.29 in).
o 1985–1989 Renault R11
o 1985–1989 Renault R9
o 1985– Renault R5 Super 5
o 1986– Renault Extra
* F8Q 1.9 L (1,870 cm3 (114 cu in),B x S: 80.0 by 93.0 millimetres (3.15 in Χ 3.66 in).
o 1986– Renault Extra
o 1988–2000 Renault R19
o 1990–1995 Renault R21
o 1991–1997 Renault Clio
o 1995–2003 Renault Mιgane
o 1996–2003 Renault Scιnic
o 1997–2001 Renault Trafic
o 1994–1998 Mitsubishi Carisma
o 1994–1996 Volvo 440/460
o 1995–1998(?) Volvo S40/V40
o 2002–2006 Dacia Gamma
o 2003–2005 Dacia Solenza

I drove a Clio 3 with dci 3 years ago.  It sure beat the hell out of the 1.6NA  and Mercedes OM616/617 crap that I have.  But I live in the enlightened US of A, so that's all the experience I have...

no meaning to offend, but the fact is that mercedes om 615-617 are the worlds most durable diesel engine in personal automobiles and om601-603 comes in second (allthough some om603 have problems with bad cylinder heads)

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone, in fact I own a total of 4 OM616/7s and they are the best in terms of durability .  Its just  a lament that we can't seems to get anything in the US that wasn't designed in the 1960s.....
