as soon as I install my EGT, my waste gate will become a thing of the past.
why not just use a boost controller? (build one for 5 bucks) cause there are going to be times when you want wide open throttle, but not 40 psi boost. and the only way you wont have that, is with a wastegate and boost controller. you will easily get 25 psi with no wastegate, and will shorten the life of your turbo substantially. just something to think about...
Wow, I never thought my tiny turbo could get past 25 psi - right now it has never gone past 9 psi. My BOV is gone, so maybe my WG controller needs adjustment. Did you post how you make your controller ?
no, i didnt, but theres about a million different DIY sections on different ricer forums. i pulled my design right out of my own brain. and it worked alot better than the one i copied from the online page. the one that the ricer section had a detailed build of, worked alright, but at higher boost pressures it just wouldnt work that well. it would still let the wastegate open too soon. so i put a tighter spring in it, drilled a bigger bleed hole, and put a longer, more adjustible bolt in it. i swear i can set this thing up to work with 50 psi boost, and still be operating a standard 8psi wastegate.
i put it on my audi when it was still alive. and it was amazing. cause it would smoke black before, but after i set it up to run 25 psi, it would only smoke for a split second until boost came up.
didnt you say that you are running a goofy VNT 15 on an audi manifold or something? well, i guess its not a VNT if you got a wastegate huh? so it must be a normal GT15 like off a Saab or something? either way, yea, it should make at least 20 psi fairly safely. my GT17 VNT makes around 35 psi boost, ive seen it with my own 4 eyes.
if i were you, i would build a boost controller, and then set the turbo for at least 15 psi. these diesel engines are STUPID if they have under 15 psi. but thats just my opinion, i like going fast. and 90% of the time, when you increase boost, you actually decrease EGTs. intercoolers rock too, just so you know.
