1994 golf TD parts compatibility (help)
« on: January 19, 2010, 12:09:19 am »
Hi guys,
I have a 94 golf TD with AAZ engine.  I need a replacement alternator and was wondering if anyone has the part number, or knows which alternators are the same in other years/makes of vw's.  Does it matter if it has A/C ?
please let me know, need an alt. fast.
cheers

I think those were at least 90 amp alt with air

I found a new unit for 65.00 on ebay, I searched under the Bosch model number

this is the problem I had with my build. I have a non AC engine and the mount is different/ incompatible with the AC version

The no AC bracket and alternator are on the left the with AC alternator is on the right. The no AC version uses a spring under the alternator to tension the belt. The AC version uses a separate tensioner. The good news is that the with tensioner version is way more common and most VW's you find at the junkyard have this type of alternator usually in 90A or 120A versions typically they are Bosch brand. Also the wiring harness is a little different too.

Correct, I purchased a set of A/C brackets from a member and found the alt ( air type ) if I choose to install the compressor .

non a/c are 70 amp

Great Post !
