any idea what was causing your gauge issue?
not having accurate gauges could cost your company big $$
my biggest beef with our mechanics is the way they refuse to fix the gauges in our trucks, and act like its no big deal that the ONLY thing that works on any of them is either the tach or the speedo(never both, and never anything else)
if the drivers knew what the oil pressure was, or the water temp, or the air brake pressure or, or, or, then they would be able to stop the truck BEFORE it blew up and would cost much less to fix, but NO, apparently thats too much work...

sorry to ramble on, but I am envious of a company that is responsible with their repairs(but I guess I should not be surprised, I do work over the edge of the earth where the water goes tumbling off into space)

its a GM...its the cluster it self... I told the boss and his response...Don't worry what the cluster tells you...When the piston comes out the motor then you worry lol. they've replaced the cluster in the service truck a few times already.

well, at least you heard that directly from him, so when it does push something through the hood, he cant get too mad.
nothing sucks worse than having a mechanic tell you something is ok, only to get yelled at by the boss when it fails.

the next truck is either an International or a Dodge, he hates GM's and Fords. The clutch blew not too long ago in my truck before I got it.

IH engines in farm machinery are indestructible. IH engines in trucks don't even come close to that

!
The only problem with the IH powered fords.. was the ford part of it. a complete IH machine will be the best of everything. Dodge will meet its demise beside an IH. IMHO

but cummins is ford owned too.
and IHI is ford in disguise, like macka said. they still use the powersmoke engines. DT466 is a DAMN good engine tho IMO. seems pretty tough.
dodge is...well...dodge.
and what would he rather have happen? the clutch be fine but the transmission explode? think of all the idiots (potentially) that drove your truck before you did. they could have rode the hell out of the clutch, slipped it into every gear, whatever... clutches are made to be sacrificed. anything can eat clutches. but, i would like to see you find a ford or a dodge that isnt cat powered that will hold a candle to the longevity of a duramax...

uncle has 600k, but he has done some work to his, nothing major tho. - 03 or 4 Duramax LLY 5 spd alli

The guy that was working before me that had my truck I hate to say this but is a VW Owner, Hes got a MK4 Jetta with a HUGE ASS Spoiler on it. He drove my truck like he droves his Jetta GAS, rev rev rev and pull the clutch out,.
My Ttruck you don't rev unless your on a hill, you pull the clutch out and she goes becayse of the gearing and torque.

My Truck you don't rev unless your on a hill, you pull the clutch out and she goes becayse of the gearing and torque.
there are the problems, the kid was used to driving a ricer im sure... a diesel is far from a ricer. lol. he probably wound that thing out (your truck) to atleast 3500 in every gear. and probably dumped the clutch into the next gear. 99% of the time, no matter what im driving, i use the clutch in first, then thats it usually. i use the gas pedal to down shift unless its an emergency.
when you drive a 4000 lb toyota for 60k miles with a slipping clutch, you tend to get used to shifting with no clutch.

I leanrt how to drive "Trucls" on a Mack EZ 460 with the Clutch shot, You could start it with the clutch and the truck wouldn't move but once you pull it out the clutch wouldn't work again. My brother use to use it for hauling wood chips and I learnt to drive grossing over 100,000lbs with it. lol. Trucker is in my Blood

And yes he is a ricer and use to rev my truck to the tits all the time.

Just to add a little fuel to the fire here... 2001 F250 still going hard and strong at 200k, a quarter of that was put on in the first two years of back and forth commutes from SC to NY pulling a 35' box trailer full of tools. Or a Bobcat.
The 7.3 has devoured a starter in that time, eaten @ 135k miles (Ford replaced it, no charge), and there was a problem with the left bank's wiring harness @ 40k (also replaced under warranty). It ate two sets of batteries in very short order because the numb-nuts that installed them shorted one of them out on install and didn't catch it... and then did it again when they were brought in under warranty.
The body is solid, the transmission is still shifting great, and it's only now begun to develop a front end bounce at certain speeds. We have some rack time for replacing shocks, tie rod ends and bushings on all four corners in her future. We just did the pads and rotors all the way around to fix two warped rotors.
Compared to how the GM 1500 it replaced survived the abuse of the job... Moby Dick has been the very picture of reliability and serviceability. And yet, it's "a Ford," so it shouldn't be anything remotely like that, right?
I think all three of the "Big 3" trucks
can do the work. I think that they all at some point had some problem or another, balanced out by some stellar feature, and it's this perception that has stuck hard and fast in folks' minds (like a certain GM diesel fiasco of rushed development and incomplete training...).

im not saying that fords are incapable of going long distances un touched, because anything is capable. it just needs to be properly maintained.
and in my life, i havent seen many fords live long lifes. my brothers 05 ford F250 is on its fifteenth transmission, 4th set of heads, 6th turbo, few different intercooler boots and a long list of other small things.
but my dad has a old ford 6.9 idi up in alaska at the fish camp, and it will not die. WILL NOT... and it gets basically no maintenance. lol

anything new from any company sucks the big one. Even Volkswagen.. pathetic some of the quality issues you hear coming from vw these days.. things ain't like they used to be.
Yeah Kev those old 6.9's are un KILLABLE. had one that went forever on 50/50 water oil mix.. finally started to take a bearing out after like 6-7 years? it was insane..

that right there ^ ^ ^ the pre 92 thing. nail on the head there Jeremy... with everything, ford, chevy, dodge, gas or diesel. vehicles just started being cheaper and harder to work on.
