The only reason to change the turbo is because it's cheaper then buying oil. And the pump is leaking so while in Rome...

Oh crap, you guys are right. :( I'm just trying to justify my mods.

Yup!!   It's all over now..  The classic, "Since I'm this far into it, I might as well....." has struck...

I Just drive the car, that's all. No plans to fix it up...

Heard and said that many times..

although it may be getting a different turbo in the future... might even splurge and build a pump for it ::)

And there's the beginning of it all.....
A VW with us starts its life off as...Just a beater...then well I'm going to mod it a bit...then before we know it we are eyes deep in a complete rebuilt and thinking to ourselfs what the hell are we doing lol then go buy another beater...

this is how it starts with EVERY VW, not just the beaters. hahaha

Bit of troubleshooting for y'all.

I have a CV that is threatening to explode. To be honest I'm afraid to go on the highway tomorrow to get to work. It's really clicking. If I make a turn to the right the clicking completely stops, left it remains the same. What side is bad?

Typically if it's worse turning right, it's the left..   If it's worse turning left, it's the right..   Although this is not always true, and with a VW nothing is ever typical....

The Ignition in my car was acting up, it would start a couple times then not turn over...Half a turn then stop, couple turn overs...OH LOOK it started....

Thanks maxfax. I changed the right one because I had a good used one kicking around and no luck. Tomorrow I'll install the left side and hope it works. I think it's the first new CV I've ever purchased. I'm going to be really mad when it breaks.

Just a little update. Lately I've been noticing an increasingly present turbo whistle. I was pretty concerned but not enough to actually pop the hood and have a look. FTR I have a sprained wrist (snowboarding) and am suppose to be taking it easy ::) So on the drive home tonight I thought "I don't think I've ever really wound this car out." So I did. It made some very scary noises and now I really have a whistle! I think I blew a huge hole in my downpipe. I'll have to have a look at it tomorrow night after work. Looks like I'll have to add a 2.5" downpipe to the wish list :) I don't know if the sound works on my camera but I'll see what I can do

That's actually more effort then I was planning. I'm going to see how it is on the highway and make a call from there. I do think the exhaust fumes will get to me though

Na it's all about priorites. This car only needs to last a few more months, and when I'm working on it, I'm not working on the Golf.

Besides, this hole in the exhaust seems to have fixed my smoke issue. Before my car was embarrasing to drive, now it hardly smokes at all unless I'm really into it.

Here is a video I made tonight. I'm starting out in second at idle. I'm not flooring it because the engine is still quite cold. Photobucket kind of messed up the sound a bit, it's a bit louder then what you can hear. The whistle is definitely more pronounced.
