Learn me. I am headed out to pick a part soon .How long to do. What tools needed. Secrets? is it easier to pull the motor as well, than just  the trans. Man I am not looking forward to this in the rain. Cheers Dan

If you leave the motor in you'll need to support it somehow.......

Have fun!!! ;D
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

Will they bring over the torch for you?  I have done 4 in my driveway in the past 6 months.  Remove front rad and bumper supports, crane engine, unbolt tranny.  I don't see how this could be done without air tools.  The mount bolts are usually rusted/bent.  You need a triple square for the axle flanges (or be prepared to seperate the lower control arms and struts). I would ask them how much to torch the entire front clip off and load it into your vehicle, or at least it would be easier to remove tranny.  If they are really helpfull, torch clip, mounts, struts and lower control arm.  Then all you have to do is unbolt tranny, which could be dont with hand tools.

I can just send you one if you want! ;D

If you pull it in place you'll need to support the engine, and pull the tranny out straight so you don't bend the shaft, then twist it up and around out of the engine bay.

I usually do it in place putting a jack under the engine to hold it and bench press it over, up and then back down under the car.  You might get by with the across the engine bay tool like you see in the Bentley to hold the engine, they sell them at Princess Auto.

If it's at a pick and part you won't be doing that in the rain, in the mud on the ground.  You need the whole engine/tranny combo pulled, which they usually do.  99/100 times I've seen a diesel in a yard in BC it's been pulled as soon as it comes into the yard, there's a good market for them.

And drain the fluid first, makes it lighter.

I find pushing the engine towards the rad using a scissor jack makes it easier to get the transmission out. I've only done 2 tranny jobs, and I hated them both.
