and?
ive had that happen tons of times. i really notice it tho, cause the turbo really sings when it comes off. never really messed up any engines or turbos tho.
I think it was off for a while and it's got lowish compression now or something
haha, so it sucked up lots of something. apparently enough to wipe out the rings and/or bores.
IIRC he sucked up a butt load of sand and dirt

Yes, yes it did. I loved the one where they went to a park to have a picknic and it was some waste land covered in rocks with what looked like an out house in the back round.
Well, I took the turbo apart, ad its nice n clean inside.
I have a book as thick as my hand full of receipts from the previous owner (a company) which seemingly covers every tome they so much as put air in the tires, and no turbo was bought.
Another great example of why I do all the work on my own cars.
Yup.
(Despite my embarrassing air hose error.
)
I actually remember you posting about that.
OH right, the purpose of this thread...
That car, from the firewall to the radiator, just seems to be royally screwed. It's been tampered with, forced to run in terrible conditions... mistreated etc.
So many things to check, look over, replace... what a head ache. I feel so sorry for your friend. I hate it when VW lemons make people hate VW...
why did VW ever decide to make almost all their cars in mexico? they are all lemons..

Just in case those of us with our pukka german built VW's feel too smug, my J reg (1991) Mk2 GTD with German chassis numbers, has various random bits (rear brake drums for example) stamped MEXICO. WTF?
Mexi stuff ain't all bad. Could be China.

I don't think it's that it's made in Mexico for the newer cars, it's that they are, well, newer cars.
My buddy's a4 jetta TDI has a "Inspected By Pedro" sticker underhood, which is the
source of much junk talking.
