He might get lucky. I bought a complete '93 golf about a year ago for 500 bucks, body a little tough, and I was told the trans was out of it (and it is). Tested a little under 400 pounds, so it's apart for rings right now. Already has the late pulley on the crank, needs a pump seal, everything else looks good.

so am i living in a dream wolrd thinking i can get one for 500 or under used? i got my 1.6 TD for 250.

if you got a TD motor for that much in the PNW that was in good shape you scored bro.  8)

he wanted 300 for it, but it had no compressor wheel. and slightly low compression (probably from eating the compressor) but it did have a fresh set of 155 bar injectors (under 10k miles) and it had an injection pump, but the input shaft bushing was toast. either way, i dont think it was a bad deal, even just for all the specific parts.

hey kev, you can just take over this thread, im getting too many projects going at this time. i cant take on an AAZ too.

just think celica, GTI, Jetta, 4runner, and rabbit. thats too many all at once. and the funny thing is, even the non vw cars have plenty of VW parts. the Celica is getting CIS injection so i can eliminate the stock restrictive mass air sensor (same size as digi cars).
