AEF head on a 1.6td(SB)?
« on: December 30, 2009, 08:37:26 am »
As the topic says, can i use the head from the aef engine on the 1.6td (SB) engine?
Is it a straight swap or what do i need to modify?
Head gasket is another issue, can any one tell me what i can use.
thanx

if your 1.6 that you are putting it on has hydraulic lifters also, then the head will mate right up. use the AEF (or AAZ, whatever is easiest to get) head gasket also. should be a multi layer metal gasket.

If you haven't taken many parts off the engine yet. I recommend using a degreasing engine wash agent and let it do its work for 10 min or so, then  jet wash the heck out of the engine - works surprisingly well. You do have to block all passages into the engine of course, but it's still easier than manual cleanup. You might want to apply a rough brush on the dirtiest spots while the degreaser is working. Spray some more on the tough spots while brushing, and finish it off with the jet washer - that should do the trick.
