My turbo has stopped whistling and now makes a rather unsettling whine sound... boosts lower than it used to, takes lots of fuel to spool it up... at 120km/hr on flat ground it used to make 5-7psi now it will hardly hit 2. Putting my foot into it doesn't peg the 22-24psi waste gate mark anymore...
i suspect i have destroyed the shaft or at least the bearings.
I spoke with a sales rep for a turbo rebuild manufactuerer very close to me here in the Fraser Valley (British Columbia) and he had a kit for $100 and knocked it down to $75 for me. He said it would solve the problem of oil getting to the turbine on the cold side (that was my only issue at the time).
What sort of fix am i looking to do? replace the shaft, bearings and seals? or should i start looking for a new turbo and turf this one?
The fins look fine... and nothing whent through it (plus the oil in the intake) which is what leads me to believe it's a shaft problem that was preceeded by an oil seal problem.
Also, if i am going to try and rebuild this one I was looking for some input on whether or not i should try and mix and match some of the compressor wheels?
I read that MB thread and the OP sounded quite thrilled with the performance increase he found. I would imagine it to be similar to the T3/T4 hybrid.
Idealy, I'd love a VNT but we all know i don't have the patience for that

It's going to be sequential for me eventually - once i get a welder.
