GP relay temperature sender

My GP relay won't engage when hooked to either, but the gauge in the car works when hooked to either.  When I leave the blue/white to the sender disengaged, the relay works properly.

Both AutohausAZ and GAP list both senders as being the same.  What gives?  Anyone have a part #?

For now I'll just leave it unplugged, but I do want it fixed for the warmer weather.

Actually, if I leave the blue/white disconnected, will the relay & GPs keep energizing when the engine is at operating temperature?

Yes there are two identical *two* temp senders... one for the dash gauge and one for the glow plug relay.

The fact that your dash gauge works with either suggests the senders are ok... pointing a finger at the glow plug relay.  It's programmed to come on for 20-30 seconds when very cold *or* if the sensor is disconnected.

But as stated, the relay works properly when the blue/white wire is disconnected, just as the Bentley says it should.  I did count to about 20, then heard/felt it un-click.

Your write-up did answer the 2nd question, though.  Once the starter is engaged, the relay/GPs will shut off.

Yup, that's how it's supposed to work if it can't see the sensor.

However, it sounds like it's having trouble actually *reading* the sensor.

OK, I kinda get what you're saying, now. 

I'll try cleaning the contacts, then run a jumper wire to see if that's the issue before I buy another relay.  I think I have a spare, but it would probably take longer to look/find it, than order one and have it delivered.

I finally got around to trouble shooting this.  Replaced the terminal, then checked continuity...  everything reads good.  Guess I'll be getting a new relay.
